Back in December 2011, a then 15-year-old Gunn was left less than impressed by what he saw from Ronaldo during an outing for Real Madrid against Barcelona. After seeing the Blancos slip to a 3-1 defeat in El Clasico, the aspiring shot-stopper posted on social media: “Ronaldo has been very poor #notwhathewas”

Gunn had no way of knowing at the time that his path would cross with CR7 in 2024. That was, however, the case when lining up for Scotland in a UEFA Nations League clash with Portugal. Ronaldo had the last laugh in that contest as he netted an 88th-minute winner and left the Scots empty-handed in Lisbon.

Fans are now delighting in reminding Gunn of his online faux pas, with the post in question having since been deleted. Ronaldo has made a habit down the years of making any doubters look foolish, with the all-time great still going strong at 39 years of age.
WHAT NEXT?
He was 26 at the time of Gunn’s tweet and held the European Golden Shoe after netting 40 goals for Real in the previous campaign. He only had one Ballon d’Or to his name at the time – from his spell at Manchester United – but now has five and has reached 900 career goals after remaining a prolific presence for club and country.
