Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Leicester City striker Islam Slimani, per The Telegraph.
What’s the word?
Spurs are currently without star striker Harry Kane, who could be out until the end of the season due to a hamstring injury.
That has left the club without a senior out-and-out forward and the report claims that manager Jose Mourinho is keen to bring in a target man in this transfer window.
A move for Slimani has, thus, been mooted, with Aston Villa also previously interested in bringing the Algeria international back to England from his loan.
Leicester, though, could potentially rebuff advances from a club that could be seen as top-four rivals.
The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?
In-form at least
Slimani is, at the very least, in some semblance of form.
While fans may sniff at the prospect of bringing in a player who could not quite make the grade at the King Power Stadium, he has been excellent for the French club in 2019/20.
His return of seven goals and seven assists in 13 Ligue 1 games is superb and he has played a key role in helping Monaco climb the table; indeed, he netted once against PSG and also registered three assists and a goal in a 4-1 thumping of Stade Brest 29.
The possibility of bringing a striker in during the winter window is difficult but this is a step in the right direction, at least.
Slimani would be a good acquisition, provided one is willing to look past his numbers at Leicester, where he scored 13 goals in 46 outings.
The only question is whether or not he will be able to continue this purple patch.
Meanwhile, Spurs are regretting one huge decision!
